Alba y Gael and the 5 Cs
Culture from throughout the Hispanic world is presented across the units. The main characters are Alba, a girl from Spain, and Gael, a boy from Mexico. They share stories and experiences from their own cultures and also encounter characters from other cultures. This cross-cultural focus helps students become open-minded learners who make connections with other communities.
Alba y Gael’s family and friends introduce the children to the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. Through these experiences, the children develop a deeper understanding of their own culture and language while learning to value different Spanish-speaking cultures and the variety within the Spanish language itself.
Alba y Gael has been created for learners who will be part of multilingual and multicultural communities in a global society. Because of this, Alba y Gael offers activities that connect language learners with the world outside the classroom.
Alba y Gael opens the door to cultural diversity and offers themes that motivate children to learn more about the Spanish-speaking world in a creative and interdisciplinary way.
With Alba y Gael, even the youngest students will see a window into a universe of infinite possibilities for communication, fun, and empathy with Spanish and Spanish speakers.
