Alba y Gael

Alba y Gael is a three-volume program for children between the ages of seven and eleven that teaches Spanish in a simple and fun way. Each volume of Alba y Gael consists of seven units, a mini dictionary, and an appendix with cut-out-materials.

Why Alba y Gael?

Provides a Spanish language curriculum designed exclusively for children following the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.

Explores interesting topics for children that engage them in a deeper and more meaningful way.

Introduces hands-on activities and musical experiences from an intercultural perspective.

Incorporates motivating activities that foster learning, creativity, and cooperation.

Alba y Gael and the 5 Cs

Communication is at the core of Alba y Gael’s pedagogical approach. The ultimate goal is for students to acquire communication skills, and Alba y Gael exposes students to real-life experiences that practice the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational.

Culture from throughout the Hispanic world is presented across the units. The main characters are Alba, a girl from Spain, and Gael, a boy from Mexico. They share stories and experiences from their own cultures and also encounter characters from other cultures. This cross-cultural focus helps students become open-minded learners who make connections with other communities.

Students establish connections with other subjects and reinforce what has already been learned. Mathematics, art, music, social studies, and science, as well as other subjects and topics, are all part of the children’s experiences when they learn Spanish with Alba y Gael.

Alba y Gael’s family and friends introduce the children to the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. Through these experiences, the children develop a deeper understanding of their own culture and language while learning to value different Spanish-speaking cultures and the variety within the Spanish language itself.

Alba y Gael has been created for learners who will be part of multilingual and multicultural communities in a global society. Because of this, Alba y Gael offers activities that connect language learners with the world outside the classroom.

Alba y Gael opens the door to cultural diversity and offers themes that motivate children to learn more about the Spanish-speaking world in a creative and interdisciplinary way. Karina Bustamante
